SHORT STORY SERIES
EPISODE 1: THE BEGINNING
At twenty-seven, Amara Okeke believed she had everything a young woman could ask for: beauty, a thriving fashion business, and a best friend who had stood beside her since secondary school.
That friend was Nneka.
They shared clothes, secrets, dreams, and even the passwords to their social media accounts. When Nneka married the handsome, wealthy-looking businessman, Daniel Eze, Amara was her chief bridesmaid.
“Promise me something,” Nneka whispered on her wedding night. “Never let any man come between us.”
Amara laughed and kissed her forehead. “Not even if he looks like a movie star.”
But marriage slowly changed Nneka. She began complaining about Daniel’s late nights, unexplained phone calls, and mysterious female contacts. Their arguments became so frequent that she called Amara crying one rainy evening.
“Please come and help us settle this matter. You are the only person Daniel respects apart from me.”
Amara agreed immediately.
She had no idea that the journey to save her friend’s marriage would become the beginning of her own destruction.
Because when Daniel opened the door that evening, wearing a black T-shirt and a tired smile, Amara’s heart did something it had never done before.
It skipped.
And Daniel, after looking into her eyes for several seconds, said something that made her blood run cold.
“Amara? You have no idea how long I’ve wanted us to meet alone.”
But why would her best friend’s husband be waiting for an opportunity to see her alone?

EPISODE 2:
THE MAN BEHIND THE MARRIAGE
Amara sat between Nneka and Daniel in their luxurious living room, determined to be the sensible friend.
“Marriage is not a competition,” she told them. “You cannot win every argument and still expect to win each other’s hearts.”
Nneka wiped her tears. Daniel stared at the floor.
According to Nneka, Daniel had become distant, secretive, and emotionally unavailable. According to Daniel, his wife had stopped listening to him and turned every disagreement into a courtroom trial.
“I work day and night to provide for this family,” Daniel said quietly. “Sometimes I come home exhausted, and before I remove my shoes, I’m already guilty of something.”
For the first time, Amara saw something beneath his confidence: loneliness.
When Nneka went upstairs to fetch their wedding album, Daniel leaned forward.
“Can I tell you something without you repeating it to your friend?”
“No,” Amara answered firmly. “I’m here to help you both, not to become your secret keeper.”
He smiled.
“That’s what I like about you. You have always been different.”
The words lingered long after Nneka returned.
That night, Amara drove home telling herself that she was simply impressed by Daniel’s honesty. She had known him for three years, but she had never really spoken to him.
Then her phone vibrated.
It was a message from Daniel.
Thank you for listening today. I wish my wife understood me the way you do.
Amara stared at the screen, her thumb hovering over the keyboard.
She knew she should ignore it.
Instead, she typed, You need to talk to your wife, Daniel.
His reply came immediately.
And what if the woman I need to talk to is you?
Amara dropped the phone as another message appeared—one that could destroy everything she had promised Nneka.
