HEALTH ALERT: NCDC INVESTIGATES TWO NEW SUSPECTED EBOLA CASES IN NORTH-EAST NIGERIA By Reward Root Blog | November 1, 2026 Nigeria’s public health authorities are investigating two additional suspected cases of Ebola disease in the country’s North-East region, raising fresh concerns about the possibility of further spread of the virus. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) disclosed the development on Saturday, October 31, explaining that both individuals had been isolated while laboratory investigations and contact-tracing activities continued. The agency stressed that the two cases remain suspected and have not been confirmed as positive. Laboratory results will determine whether the individuals are infected. The development comes barely days after Nigeria confirmed its first imported Ebola case in more than a decade. The initial confirmed case involved a Swiss woman who had travelled through Uganda before arriving in Abuja. She subsequently received medical attention and was evacuated to Switzerland alongside her husband. Health authorities have been working to identify people who may have had contact with the confirmed patient. The government has also introduced financial support for individuals placed under quarantine to encourage compliance with public health instructions. The Ebola outbreak is particularly concerning because it involves the Bundibugyo species of the virus, for which there are currently no approved vaccines or specific treatments. The outbreak has also affected other African countries, with the Democratic Republic of Congo experiencing the greatest burden. NCDC has urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, observe sanitation practices and follow official public health guidance. Citizens are also advised to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms consistent with Ebola, particularly where there has been a relevant exposure. Important clarification: The two newly identified North-East cases are suspected cases, not confirmed infections. Nigerians should avoid spreading unverified information or creating unnecessary panic.
